BAND SHELL RENOVATION
BAND SHELL RENOVATION On Tuesday, June 22nd., the Hampton City Council unanimously voted to proceed with the Band Shell renovation proposal presented by RDG Planning & Design of Des Moines, Iowa. The City has committed $30,000 toward the project, with and estimated total cost of $90,000. The City Council has designated Main Street Hampton as the lead for a fund raising effort, who will be working in conjunction with the Hampton Area Chamber of Commerce and volunteers with this campaign. Kick off for the campaign to "Put the Band Back in the Band Shell" took place during the Municipal Band's final concert of the season on Tuesday, July 6th. The campaign is scheduled to continue through September 1st.

On August 16th., former H-D band directors, Leon Kuehner & Brian Stevens (Municipal Band Director), conducted a Play-A-Thon beginning at 10AM, offering musical performance at $30/minute in donations. Donations from former students could be matched, and the two agreed to perform up to 8 hours, if enough money was donated for the minutes. Their performance continued, including some participation from former students, vocalists and a phone call from Simon Estes, expressing his support & congratulations. At 6PM, they concluded by topping the fund raising goal for the renovation at $93,506.45. Funds are still being accepted that will be designated for additional upgrades and equipment at the Band Shell.
